What is Roma PlaceAge about?
We are exploring the everyday experiences of the Roma community in accessing health and wellbeing supports in middle to later life (40+). We will use this information to develop practice and policy recommendations and tools to support positive outcomes for Roma populations.
Why is Roma PlaceAge important?
The Roma population currently experiences health inequalities when compared to the wider population. This includes significantly lower life expectancies, an increased likelihood of living with chronic conditions, and poorer mental wellbeing. Existing interventions have failed to deliver support in appropriate ways for Roma populations. Language barriers, cultural challenges, and stigma when accessing support are some of the barriers to accessing those services. Services have often failed to offer wraparound support at a family level and are not shaped around the places where people live. PlaceAgeRoma works to address these negative outcomes by working alongside Roma communities, policymakers, and practitioners to develop interventions and target supports where they are needed the most.
